We invite our community of suppliers and retailers to become a UNFI Climate Action Partner. We would love for you to join us on this journey.

In 2020, UNFI developed science-based emissions reduction targets consistent with avoiding the worst effects of climate change. With this important Science-Based Target (SBT) milestone, UNFI joined a global movement of companies leading the transition to a low-carbon economy.

In the process of developing the targets, UNFI learned that 90% of its carbon footprint comes from its value chain, specifically the goods and services that are purchased and distributed to retailers across the nation. UNFI is on a journey to reduce its carbon footprint and cannot achieve this goal without its suppliers also succeeding in reducing their global warming emissions.

Climate Action Partners are companies within our supplier and retailer community that have made a meaningful climate commitment through one of the following organizations:

• Climate Collaborative
• Science Based Target initiative (SBTi)
• SME Climate Hub
• We made a commitment, but not through an external organization

We are notified quarterly by these organizations of companies that have made a commitment. We consider all companies in our supplier and retailer community who have made a climate commitment to be a Climate Action Partner. We look forward to featuring these Partners on our website and finding ways to bring visibility to their commitment.

WHAT IS A CLIMATE ACTION PARTNER?

In 2022, UNFI's science-based emissions reduction targets consistent with avoiding the worst effects of climate change were validated. With this important Science-Based Target (SBT) milestone, UNFI joined a global movement of companies leading the transition to a low-carbon economy.

In the process of developing the targets, UNFI learned that 90% of its greenhouse gas emissions come from its value chain, specifically the goods and services that are purchased and distributed to retailers across the nation. UNFI is on a journey to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and cannot achieve this goal without its suppliers also succeeding in reducing their global warming emissions.

That’s why UNFI has launched the Climate Action Partnership program that seeks to encourage climate action amongst our supplier partners. Climate Action Partners will be rewarded for their progress towards a more sustainable future with benefits provided by UNFI.

Climate Action Partners will be rewarded for their progress towards a more sustainable future with incentives provided by UNFI. Incentives may include finding ways to bring visibility to their commitment such as recognition on UNFI websites, features in UNFI communications, promotions, and exclusive opportunities to meet with UNFI Sales team.

All the climate commitment organizations listed above offer reputed programs and include key requirements for companies related to climate commitments, transparency, annual reporting, and taking an emissions reductions first approach. Approved third-party organizations may change in the future at UNFI's discretion.

To remain eligible for the UNFI Climate Action Partnership, suppliers must remain in good standing with their commitment organization, including the completion of any progress reporting or other required action by the commitment organization(s). Suppliers must also continue to remain in good standing with UNFI.
